Atmospheric Correction (SMAC) algorithm

Martin Kabantu
Dear all
I downloanded a MODIS Image then I want doing atmospheric correction for my study area
but I am not able to get information's like:
- top atm reflectence channel
- coeficient of sensor
- optical thickness
- ozone content map
- surface pressure map
where can I find them?

Hi Martin,

Below you will find the answers regarding your question to SMAC in ILWIS.

- top atm reflectence channel
refer to the reflectance channels in VIS or NIR (MODIS band 1 to band 7 in reflectance but not atmospheric corrected),
- coeficient of sensor
you can obtain the zip file for all the sensors by using the followin link:
http://52north.org/downloads/download/82-smac/283-smaccoeffiles
- optical thickness
Aerosol optical thickness (AOT evaluated at 550 nm wavelength): The value ranges from 0.05 to 0.8. Aerosol in the atmosphere has an extreme dynamic behaviour. As a reference aerosol conditions may change in time scales less than an hour with high spatial variation. At such it is difficult to get accurate information on the aerosol optical thickness.
Use could be made of the aeronet service http://aeronet.gsfc.nasa.gov/  (that might help to evaluate a reasonable value of aerosols in case that a station is located close to the area of interest).
- ozone content map
A good source of ozone in the net is http://macuv.gsfc.nasa.gov/. Use TIFF high resolution on the same date. Earth-Probe sensor.
- surface pressure map
can be outputs of models e.g GLDAS, ECMWF, or insitu data

Regards, Lichun
