[Ilwis] Ilwis with Linux

Pekka Hurskainen
Dear list,

I would like to use Ilwis under Linux (Ubuntu Lucid 10.04). I
understand I have to do this with WINE emulator?

The HowTo page I googled, at www.ilwis.org/ilwis_in_linux.htm, has
been inaccessible for many days.

Are there people in this list using Ilwis under Linux? What are your
user experiences?

Best regards,

Pekka

Hi Pekka,

I guess you are referring to this page [1]. It is in Spanish, though.

Re: [Ilwis] Ilwis with Linux

Bas Retsios
Hello,

Just try it. I have run ILWIS with wine, and it worked smoothly, but I haven't done an extensive test on all functionality.
Inform us about your findings.

The following steps are required to run ILWIS on Ubuntu:
1. Install the wine package using the Synaptics Package Manager
2. Ensure you run setup.exe and ilwis.exe with wine and not with Archive Manager, and also that the executable bit of these files is set
3. If after the setup.exe ILWIS still complains that DLLs are missing, use winetricks (http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks) to get them, but please inform us, because setup.exe should have taken care of that.

Cheers,

Bas.

Re: [Ilwis] Ilwis with Linux

Pekka Hurskainen
Hi,

thanks for the installation help! I managed to do it with your
instructions, and it didn't complain about any DLL's.

Next, I will try out the functionalities. Especially I am interested
on the image processing side, classifications, segmentation, change
detection etc. It would be great to find an easy-to-use and
competitive open-source alternative to Erdas Imagine. If it works
under linux, even better! :)

BR,

Pekka

Re: [Ilwis] Ilwis with Linux

Dr. Ir. Daan Vreugdenhil
The ilwis.org site has been maliciously taken over by hackers. We could put it back up again but within hours they would enter again. As I am on mission in Africa, it will be a while until we have upgraded the system and plugged all the potential holes.
Sorry for the inconvenience
Best wishes,
Daan
